UMK AGRICULTURAL EXPO 2019 (AGX 19) RECORDED UNEXPECTED NUMBERS OF VISITORS

UMK Agricultural Expo 2019 (AGX 19) held at the University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Jeli Campus attracted more than 10,000 visitors among students and the local community especially around Jeli and several other districts throughout Kelantan. Outstanding numbers of visitors has been recorded.

The AGX’19 Carnival themed Agricultural Rejuvenation Towards the Industrial Revolution 4.0 organized by the Faculty of Agricultural Industry (FIAT) runs for three (3) days from September 27th until 29th, 2019.

Director of UMK Jeli Campus, Prof. Dr. Nik Marzuki Sidik, said the objective in organizing the AGX '19 carnival was with its primary mission of focusing on the livestock aspect as the key to exposing the importance of agricultural technology through proper agricultural practices and the challenges of agricultural revolution in the IR 4.0 era.

In addition, the carnival is an excellent platform for exposing the public to information on entrepreneurship opportunities in the agriculture and agro-based industries.

“To boost AGX'19, various exciting activities were held such as sales from government and private agencies including UMK Jeli Campus students. The carnival is also a states-themed booth in Malaysia, ” he said at the Opening Ceremony of AGX '19 at the Main Hall, UMK Jeli Campus, on September 29th, 2019.

Also present, Dean of FIAT cum Director of AGX ’19, Associate Prof. Dr. Seri Intan Mokhtar, Former Director of the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia, Dr. Abu Hassan Muhammad Ali and Secretary of AGX ’19 Program, Dr. Zul Ariff Abdul Latif

Meanwhile, Associate Prof. Dr. Seri Intan said that the AGX ’19 carnival was also an effort to contribute back upon our local community in Jeli with the surrounding community, especially the Jeli community by establishing a close relationship between the university and the community that established the term “University for the community and community for the University”.

He said the platform was also to encourage the younger generation, especially children to stimulate interest in the agricultural industry.

“At AGX ‘19, the number of children in attendance was incredible and it was one of the platforms to provide early exposure to their interests as well as the urgency to know what agriculture and livelihood are.

"In addition, fertilization technology is gaining the attention of many who are interested in obtaining accurate information on new technological cultivation techniques that have proven to be beneficial to vegetables and fruit crops," he said.

Furthermore, the launching ceremony of four (4) books from the Office of Library and Knowledge Management together with FIAT was also held entitled Tropical Fruits Vinegars (Dr. Zul Ariff Abdul Latiff, Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Amizi Ayob and Associate Professor Dr. Seri Intan), a book titled Basic Statistics for Applied Science (Mr. Mohd Fauzee Jusoh, Associate Prof. Dr. Amizi and Dr. Zull Ariff), ABC Hydroponic (Mr. Mohd Mahmod) and AGX Carnival Memory Book 2017 by Dr. Dr. Sugarthi and Dr. Maryana Mohd Nor.
