JELI 24 December I Approaching the new school session that will begin in the next few days, by responsibility and commitment of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Jeli Campus has organised a Back To School With Asnaf Kids programme, with the ultimate goal of bringing UMK closer to the community.
The first community service programme was held in collaboration with the Kelantan Social Welfare Department, TDC Holding and Mydin Holdings Kubang Kerian, to ease the burden of needy families in need of school supplies before the new school session begins in January 2020.
The Back to School Programme organised by UMK Jeli Campus with the asnaf children involving 52 students from two schools around Jeli namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Gemang and Sekolah Kebangsaan Jeli 1.
Director of UMK Jeli Campus, Prof. Dr. Nik Marzuki Sidik, said UMK as a Public University (UA) in the state has always played a role in helping the community through the concept of university for society, especially in the community service programme to develop the economy and social life of its people.
He said the community service programme had run smoothly and had achieved the objective of helping to ease the burden of the needy families spending on school supplies such as complete sets of school clothes (including school shoes), school bags, stationery, and water bottles for Asnaf students at the beginning of the new school year 2020.
"This donation will not only ease the burden of early school spending on families as well as enhance the relationship between UMK Jeli Campus residents and local residents in line with UMK's University for Society tagline.
“The programme is relevant and provides opportunities for UMK Jeli Campus members to contribute while giving out to charity a some of these group of asnaf families recently were hit by the second wave of floods. Through this contribution, we encourage the people of UMK Jeli Campus to continue this noble cause in the future,” he said after completing the relief giving ceremony at UMK Jeli Campus Multipurpose Hall on December 18, 2019. 
Also present was TDC Holding Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Hafizzuddin Hiew Abdullah who was the main sponsor of the programme.
Meanwhile, Programme Coordinator, Dr. Noor Janatun Naim Jemali said the initiative of the programme was launched from mid-November to December 11, 2019 where UMK Jeli Campus had successfully collected donations from various parties that exceeded its initial target of more than threefold.
“In addition to school aid,we also provide various other assistance including donations in the form of cash and basic supplies such as rice, milk, oil, sugar, wheat flour and so on.
"With the help received, the management of both schools is grateful for the caring and dedicated efforts of the UMK Jeli Campus in helping the students at their school," he said.
