PENGKALAN CHEPA 1 April , The Movement Control Order (MCO), effective from 18 March to 14 April 2020, has inspired Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Top Management through the Centre for Computing and Informatics (CCI) to develop a system called Smart Tracking to enhance surveillance and facilitates direct communication and monitoring of staff and students. Utilizing UMK's internal resources and expertise, the system works today.

Director of CCI, En. Wan Azlee Hj. Wan Abdullah said the Smart Tracking system is a smartphone-based application (Android and iOS) and Web (Dashboard) developed in collaboration with University Health Centre, Office of Student Affairs and Alumni and Registrar's Office.

He said the main function of the system was to track the location of staff and students based on GPS coordinates, health status and status according to the COVID-19 outbreak chain (Category A-E) during the MCO period.
“The system facilitates direct communication and monitoring involving 9,705 students (9052 UG, 653 PG) and 1267 staff from various locations whether at home, on-campus (residential colleges in Taman Bendahara, Kemumin, Bachok and Jeli) and other location.

“Locations of staff and students are located based on GPS coordinates of smartphones and data recorded in university databases where health status and health information are also obtained based on updated records from staff and students from time to time,” he said.

This health status is categorised by detection of the COVID-19 outbreak chain divided into Category A (positively identified), Category B (close contact with category A individuals), Category C (close contact with category B individuals), Category D (close contact with individuals category C) and Category E (not related to any of category A, B, C, or D).
According to Mr. Wan Azlee, the application of this system was also developed with a custom dashboard for monitoring, statistical-based analysis.

“The same data can also be analysed and matched to risk areas issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH) as well as the planning requirements for implementing e-Learning.

"General and current information on COVID-19 is integrated with the UMK COVID-19 Portal and the system utilises the appropriate staff and student feedback from time to time," he said.
En Wan Azlee added that CCI has also introduced this software into the Apps Store and Play Store. However, the process for their release takes time-based on the terms of service provided.

For temporary use, staff and students are encouraged to install the APK file (Android smartphone user) as attached, while for Apple smartphone users can access it via the following URL https://smarttracking.umk.edu.my/.

Any further questions regarding the guidelines for using this Smart Tracking System can be redirected to the Centre for Computing and Informatics by contacting En. Ahmad Hakimi bin Mohd Yasim (017-921 7886) and Pn. Siti Suhaila binti Mohd Nawi (010-908 7310).

Menurut En.
