VICE CHANCELLOR RULES FIVE KEY FOCUS ON IMPROVING STUDENT PERFORMANCE

BACHOK 7 October I Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail today outlined five main focus that needs to be emphasised by students in facing the challenges of the world and direction after becoming a student.

Speaking at the Vice Chancellor's Inauguration in conjunction with Minggu Mesra Siswa (3M), he said the five main focus were language and communication mastery, information technology, mental and physical strength, humanity, and a returning to the basics which is Integrity.

Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi said the basic thing that needs to be emphasised by students is the mastery of Language and Communication that is able to master English well.
"English is an international language and it is very important as soon as you enter the field of work later. From now on do not be ashamed to speak English because no one is able to change ourselves except ourselves.

"Apart from English, UMK students need to learn Third Language where UMK also offers various third languages such as Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, French, Thai and others," he said in a speech by the Vice Chancellor's Inauguration in conjunction with 3M which was broadcast live via Facebook Official UMK.

Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi also suggested that students need to master Information Technology because in the era of IR4.0 or Industrial Revolution 4.0 Technology such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things (IoT) has changed our lifestyle, the way we learn and work, the way we think and maybe our behaviour (IR4.0 has changed the way we live, work, think and behave).

"Indirectly, business methods also change, so you have no choice but to equip yourself with current technological knowledge and skills. Whatever your field of study must master technology. For example, online learning has now become a new norm.

"The third thing is that you need to be strong and have a big dream (you must be a competitive dreamer) because in the outside world is very competitive for you to be able to compete, apart from mastering knowledge and skills in your field of study you also need to be strong physically, mental and spiritual.

“Be an active student, get involved in various associations, sports activities and uniformed bodies. You also need to be diligent in reading because learning is an ongoing process, read a lot, especially English books,” he said.

The fourth thing is Humanity, today the world without borders and the distribution of information through social media happens very quickly and sometimes without censorship.

"This situation has its pros and cons because apart from helping us make decisions quickly, it can also bring various negative things.

“I call upon all students to use technology well and also use this opportunity for four years to get to know other race, culture and religion. It is very important for us to respect and celebrate diversity, respect is the key to peace,” he said.

In the same speech, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi reminded students to return to the basics (Back to basic) because we live in a materialistic world.

"People are becoming more selfish, willing to fight for power, rank and wealth in wrong and immoral ways such as taking bribes.

Therefore, I would like to call on all students to place integrity in the highest place in the hearts of all of us, Integrity is the foundation of our lives. Be considerate, compassionate, be more grateful, be humble be responsible and be accountable.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi said the marketability rate of UMK graduates was among the highest in Malaysia, in 2019 with 92 percent of UMK students getting jobs within six months after graduation.

"Besides that, almost 13 percent of UMK graduates become entrepreneurs after graduation, which is the highest percentage in Malaysia.

Therefore, your future starts here, you have started a four-year journey here (five years of Veterinary programme). So, I would like to give some tips or guidelines so that you can make the most of your experience at the University.

"The journey at the university is not only to gain knowledge and skills but also an opportunity for you to get to know not only new friends but also to get to know yourself,” he said.
