BACHOK 3 Februari I Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) dan Kerajaan Negeri Kelantan akan bekerjasama dalam pembinaan kilang pemprosesan cuka berasaskan buah-buahan rambutan dan dokong bagi mengatasi masalah lambakan buah-buahan bermusim sekali gus membantu para petani menambah sumber pendapatan selain mempelbagaikan produk-produk dari hasil pertanian terutamanya buah-buahan.

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pertanian, Industri Asas Tani, Bioteknologi, Teknologi Hijau dan Alam Sekitar, YB. Haji Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail berkata, melalui pembinaan kilang yang dijangka beroperasi pada September 2020 itu nanti berupaya memproses sebanyak 300 kilogram buah-buahan dalam masa sehari.

Beliau berkata, berdasarkan daripada kajian dari segi kualiti produk yang dijalankan produk cuka ini berupaya di pasarkan di peringkat antarabangsa.

“Kerajaan Negeri melalui Perbadanan Pertanian Negeri Kelantan telah menyalurkan dana suntikan awal berjumlah RM250,000.00 bagi memastikan operasi kilang yang lengkap dengan fasiliti dan mesin-mesin pemprosesan di Kawasan Perindustrian Pengkalan Chepa dapat beroperasi seperti yang dijadualkan.

“Kerjasama makmal penyelidikan ini turut mempelbagaikan produk berasaskan dokong dan rambutan seperti gel dan jus serta produk makanan lain,” katanya.

Terdahulu YB. Hj. Tuan Mohd Saripudin telah menyempurnakan majlis perasmian Karnival Penyelidikan dan Inovasi (CRI) anjuran Pusat Pengurusan Penyelidikan Dan Inovasi, Pejabat Timbalan Naib Canselor (Penyelidikan dan Inovasi) di Dewan Tuanku Canselor, UMK Kampus Bachok, Kelantan, yang berlangsung bermula dari 3 hingga 4 Februari 2020 (Isnin - Selasa).

Karnival CRI 2019 menghimpunkan 145 produk penyelidikan dan inovasi daripada 102 penyertaan dari kalangan penyelidik UMK, 23 penyertaan dari pelajar UMK, dan 21 penyertaan daripada pelajar sekolah -sekolah di sekitar Kelantan yang dipamerkan di sepanjang karnival tahunan ini berlangsung.

Pada majlis itu, beliau turut menyempurnakan perasmian pelancaran Research Management System (RMS) iaitu sebuah sistem bagi pengurusan penyelidikan dan pelancaran Crowdfunding iaitu platform pengumpulan dana daripada orang ramai, individu ataupun kumpulan bagi menjalankan sesebuah projek, membangunkan penyelidikan dan memberi peluang kepada kumpulan untuk mencapai impian dan pelancaran Projek Inovasi Idea UMK IdeaTon iaitu inspirasi membina penjanaan minda staf UMK agar selari dengan pembentukan budaya kerja yang cemerlang dalam tadbir urus organisasi.

Turut hadir, Naib Canselor UMK, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail, Timbalan Naib Canselor (Penyelidikan dan Inovasi), Prof. Ts. Dr. Arham Abdullah, Timbalan Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pertanian, Industri Asas Tani, Bioteknologi, Teknologi Hijau dan Alam Sekitar, YB. En. Abdul Aziz Kadir.

Hadir sama, Pengarah Kanan Pusat Pengurusan Penyelidikan Dan Inovasi, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Bin Sulaiman, Pengarah Kelantan Utilities Mubaarakan Holdings Sdn. Bhd., Tn. Haji Mahadi Hj. Mokhtar dan Timbalan Pengarah Unit Perancang Ekonomi Negeri Kelantan En. Azman bin Hj Awang.

Sementara itu, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi berkata, penganjuran karnival CRI 2019 pada tahun ini adalah untuk menggalakkan penyelidikan dan inovasi berterusan ke arah pengkomersialan dan membudayakan penyelidikan yang berinovasi dan memberi impak tinggi kepada masyarakat setempat.

Katanya, CRI 2019 adalah relevan dengan arus penghayatan pencapaian kemajuan dalam penyelidikan dan inovasi di mana Universiti, akademia dan pemegang taruh seperti industri, bersama-sama memainkan peranan penting. Kemajuan dalam penyelidikan dan inovasi yang mampan dan menyahut agenda pendidikan Negara akan memberi impak kemajuan untuk mensejahterakan rakyat dan Negara.

“Penyelidikan dapat ditakrifkan sebagai suatu aktiviti sistematik dan berdisiplin yang dijalankan untuk mewujudkan dan mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan. Ia membabitkan pelbagai bentuk merentasi disiplin, termasuk penemuan penyelidikan saintifik dan sosial, penciptaan atau pembaikan konsep dan teori, teknik atau komposisi, atau memperluas pemahaman semasa melalui analisis kritikal,” katanya.

Tambah beliau, penyelidikan dan inovasi ini perlu dijadikan amalan dalam kalangan warga pendidik di negara ini kerana konsep pengajaran dan pembelajaran pada masa ini tidak hanya terarah dari pemberian maklumat dari guru semata-mata sebaliknya pelajar-pelajar sendiri perlu mendapatkan maklumat-maklumat yang relevan tentang apa-apa yang dipelajari melalui pelbagai sumber khasnya secara maya.

“Dengan kata lain, konsep pengajaran dan pembelajaran memerlukan pelajar belajar secara sendiri dan tidak hanya menjadi penerima ilmu semata-mata. Mereka perlu berubah kepada kaedah penghasil ilmu bersama atau Co-curators of Knowledge berikutan perkembangan pesat teknologi,” jelas beliau.

Beliau turut mengulas penggunaan RMS iaitu satu sistem bagi mengurus projek-projek penyelidikan di UMK oleh Bahagian Pengurusan Penyelidikan (RMD) dengan kerjasama Pusat Komputeran dan Informatik (CCI).

Fasa 1 RMS telah beroperasi pada 28 November 2019, dengan menawarkan permohonan geran penyelidikan UMK-Fund, UMK Pro, UMK-Match dan UMK-Sir. Sistem RMS ini menyediakan perkhidmatan permohonan geran penyelidikan supaya lebih cepat dan mudah berbanding sebelum ini yang menggunakan borang secara manual.

Hasil integrasi sistem ini dengan sistem E-Comm UMK, maklumat berhubung profil pemohon boleh dicapai tanpa perlu mengisi pada borang berkenaan. Melalui sistem ini juga, maklumat permohonan disimpan dengan kemas dan rapi selain boleh dijadikan sebagai medium untuk bank proposal.Sistem ini dilihat mampu menjadi satu sistem menyeluruh bukan sahaja melibatkan permohonan, penilaian dan pemantauan geran penyelidikan bahkan boleh menjadi medium bagi penilaian prestasi pensyarah, pelaporan kepada universiti, pendaftaran harta intelek dan jurnal pada masa hadapan.

Sementara itu, Projek Inovasi Idea UMK IdeaTon adalah platform Pejabat Pendaftar UMK menerusi Bahagian Pengurusan dan Kecemerlangan Bakat dan Pejabat Timbalan Naib Canselor (Penyelidikan dan Inovasi) bertujuan mendidik warga UMK untuk senantiasa mempunyai minda yang sihat, cerdas dan cergas dengan memanfaatkan sepenuhnya idea kreatif yang ingin diutarakan kepada saluran atau platform yang betul dan tepat.

Idea ini telah dicetuskan oleh pihak Pejabat Pendaftar UMK berdasarkan inspirasi dan aspirasi yang pernah diketengahkan oleh pihak Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi menerusi Projek Bank Inovasi Idea KPT pada sekitar tahun 2014 dan 2015 (Dahulunya dikenali sebagai Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi) dalam usaha membina penjanaan minda staf UMK agar selari dengan pembentukan budaya kerja yang cemerlang dalam tadbir urus organisasi.
Projek inovasi yang dilaksanakan ini adalah terbuka kepada semua staf atau warga UMK dimana penyertaannya adalah secara sukarela dan idea yang ingin diutarakan adalah perlu menepati tema yang telah dikemukakan pada setiap bulan. Idea-idea ini boleh disalurkan menerusi dua (2) kaedah iaitu menerusi replika pokok Inovasi Idea yang diletakkan di ruang lobi Pejabat Pendaftar dan menerusi aplikasi padlet (https://padlet.com/bakat/BAKAT_UMKIdeaTon).

Projek ini secara langsung akan dapat melahirkan warga UMK yang mempunyai bakat ketrampilan dan kepimpinan serta sahsiah diri yang baik dan berkemampuan untuk menterjemahkan idea secara realistik bagi tujuan pembangunan Universiti. Mana-mana idea terbaik yang berjaya dipilih akan diterjemahkan dan seterusnya akan dilaksanakan di UMK.

UMK TARGETS 1,000 BEST RANKING UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD

PENGKALAN CHEPA 22 January I Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) set a target of 90 percent of Graduate Employability (GE), including targeting 30 percent of graduates entering the entrepreneurship field by 2030 as UMK Excellence Plan this year.


UMK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail said that in 2019 UMK had achieved impressive achievements when over 88.82 percent of graduates got jobs after six months to one year of graduating from the University in 2019. In addition, placing UMK in the top five (Top 5) among Public Universities.


He said UMK also recorded success for its students including 27 percent increase in student enrolment, first 9.8 per cent of entrepreneur graduates, nearly twice the research grant of RM7.5 million and 30 medals won in various competition.


“This year, UMK made its first win in the 'Student-Driven Sustainability Project of the Year Award' and third place in the 'Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year Award' at the Asia-Pacific Triple E Awards on Entrepreneurship and Engagement Excellence in Higher Education (ACEEU) 2020, in India.


"Our hope is that as our Entrepreneurial University aims for UMK to win the Ministry of Education Entrepreneurial Awards (MEA) 2020," he said at the UMK Vice Chancellor's Council for 2020 themed Nothing Is Impossible at the Entrepreneurial Hall, City Campus, on January 22, 2020.


Also present were the Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Mohd Rafi Yaacob, Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Ts. Dr. Arham Abdullah and UMK Registrar, Pn. Mazula Sabudin.
At the ceremony, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi and UMK's top management also officiated the launch of the UMK Academic Promotion Book. Also present was a theme song called Nothing Is Impossible by the UMK Choir Group.


Commenting on his address, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi, said the University would enhance its role by aiming to be ranked among the top 1,000 universities in the world according to QS World University Rankings while aiming to earn a four-star rating in the Malaysian Research Evaluation (MyRA).


He said the four-star rating is the university's aspiration to reach the top 1,000 universities in the world and the number one Entrepreneurial University in Malaysia, ASEAN and Asia by 2030.


He said, in reference to the achievements of UMK in 2019, the target was impossible given the capabilities and achievements of the university throughout the year 2019, including the areas of research and innovation with a total increase of RM7.5 million in research grants. In addition, we have won 30 gold medals in various national and international innovation competitions.


"While empowering research and innovation governance in a dynamic manner by introducing more new incentives such as Grant @ UMK, Research Management System, RMIC Coffee Talk, Teh Tarik Talk and conducting relevant research and making a significant impact on the community and industry," he said.


Meanwhile, UMK is also introducing two new academic programmes next year as well as increasing the number of Work-Based Learning programmes and upgrading the Outcome Based Education Management System.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi, said the efforts to create an industry on campus reflected the university's commitment to supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurship by strengthening UMK as a reputable entrepreneurial entity in accordance with the National Entrepreneurship Policy (DKN 2030).


“We will continue to strive for entrepreneurial activity by providing a complete ecosystem of support systems, financing, mentorship and training including focusing on entrepreneurship-based aspects of innovation and more. All of these ecosystems are supported by the UMK Entrepreneurship Centre (UMKEI),” he said.

UMK RECEIVES RM 2.6 MILLION SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP RESEARCH GRANT

PENGKALAN CHEPA 28 January I Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) received RM2.6 million in research funding grant from the Ministry of Finance Malaysia (MOF) for implementation of the Social Entrepreneur Project or UMK For Society Social Enterprise Project in an effort to increase income and economic resources in Kelantan.

The Deputy Minister of Finance of Malaysia, YB Dato’ Wira Hj. Amiruddin Hj. Hamzah said funding for the research grant was a government initiative to continue the efforts of UMK researchers to enhance the capacity for implementation of enterprise-based social projects.

He said the initial funding was a commitment by the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the project work well through the platform provided by UMK and ultimately impact the target group of B40 and asnaf including UMK students to do enterprise or business.
“The project will help participants be given training and guidance to increase their family income. Examples are the Ikan Lunak and Ikan Bekok processing business already established by the Kumpulan Wanita Nelayan (KUNITA) in Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh Kelantan and Kampung Genting, Tumpat, Kelantan.

"For this programme, the Ministry of Finance and UMK work together to create an agenda to raise the income of the people and remove the people from the poverty alleviation through Social Business projects and ultimately benefit them and give back to others,” he said at the Ministerial Talk Series Programme with YB Dato’ Wira Hj. Amiruddin Hj Hamzah and the UMK-MOF Social Enterprise Project Giving Ceremony, at the Dewan Experimental Hall, UMK City Campus, Pengkalan Chepa, on 28 January, 2020.

Also present was the UMK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail, Chairman of the Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU), YB. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Secretary of Government Procurement Division of the Ministry of Finance, Dato’ Zamzuri Abdul Aziz, UMK Board Member, En. Mohd. Nazri Mat Noor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Ts. Dr. Arham Abdullah and Director of the Institute for Poverty Research and Management (InsPeK), Prof. Dr. Wan Mohd Amir Zal Wan Ismail.
At the ceremony, YB. Dato’ Wira Hj. Amiruddin and Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi officiated the UMK-MOF Social Enterprise Project Signing Ceremony and MoF Grant Contracts Submission to 13 UMK Lead Researchers.

Commenting on the collaboration, Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Noor Azizi said that up to 2019, UMK had implemented 93 research projects with grants of RM16, 134, 201.00 including programmes in the form of Social Enterprise that built ecosystems for stakeholders to work together to help communities in a sustainable way.

He believes the initiative is in line with the expertise of UMK and through this joint venture UMK is working with MOF to succeed the Social Enterprise project in line with the initiative developed by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia (MoF).

"The ministry has given full confidence to implement this programme and the success of this project will be of great benefit to all," he said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Wan Mohd Amir Zal said the implementation of the UMK For Society Enterprise Project under the InsPeK secretariat involves three categories of Clusters: Special Project Cluster (UMK Innovation), Jeli Cottage Industrial Park Cluster and Social Enterprise Capacity Building Cluster.
He said the whole project involved a target group of 3,445 participants from underprivileged communities of B40 and asnaf, Orang Asli communities and UMK students.
“This grant is a Knowledge Transfer Program designed to promote the transfer of knowledge and expertise of the university to the target community or entrepreneurs.

“Through these 13 projects, the target group is able to effectively carry out business activities and subsequently produce products that can be helped by social enterprises. This indirectly generates income for the residents' households especially for the fishing community and the Orang Asli,” he said.

This Social Enterprise project involves the Enriched Organic Planing Mix Production Capacity Building For Social Enterprise Development project by Head of Research Prof. Madya Dr. Palsan Sannasi Abdullah, Design, Development and Testing of Commercial Scale Hybrid Solar Dryer For Drying Of Fish project, led by Prof. Ts. Dr. Arham Abdullah, Enterprise Strategic Entrepreneurship Strategic Training Programme (Dr Anis Amira Ab. Rahman), Low Cost and Low Equipment Cultivation of Gray Oxygen Mushroom by PSB Substrate to Contribute Nation's Revenue (Dr. Mst Laila Naher), Social Engineering (Social Re- Engineering) Fishermen Through Careers Based on Social Enterprise Ecosystems (Associate Professor Dr. Wan Ahmad Amir Zal Wan Ismail), Pineapple Entrepreneur Development Programme through Pineapple Skills, Pineapple Downstream Product Development and Marketing (Dr. Raimi Mohamed Redwan), Entrepreneur Development Program Orchids Among Graduates, Graduates and Local Youth Through Tissue Culture Skills, Nurse Care and Orchid Marketing (Associate Professor Dr. Fatimah Kayat)
